چکیده

One of the most important subjects in nuclear power plants is sizing of flaws which are detected during InService Inspection (ISI), since reliability of flaw sizing is very important to estimate the life of the structure or pressure equipment. The most difficult matter for applying the flaw sizing techniques mentioned above is how to identify the flaw tip signal, especially in the case of natural cracks such as stress corrosion cracking (SCC). At present, the identification of the flaw tip signal depends on technical skill, related knowledge and experiment of UT personnel. This paper proposes a new technique using echo locus curves on B-scan image for flaw sizing. The technique was applied to welds test specimens with simulated SCC and advantages of the technique were confirmed experimentally. As a result, it is clear that flaw sizing can be conducted with higher accuracy and misjudgment or measuring error due to personnel ability can be reduced.

Ultrasonic Propagation in Austenitic Stainless Steel Welds - Approximate Model and Numerical Methods Results and Comparison with Experiments

Ultrasonic testing of austenitic stainless steel welds is often difficult because the ultrasonic beam is subjected to many perturbations : deviation, partition, distortions and sometimes ghost echoes. These perturbations are due to the anisotropic and heterogeneous metallurgical structure of the welds. We are carrying out a research program in order to evaluate the influence of the main paramet...

A Comparative Evaluation of Welding Consumables for Dissimilar Welds between 310 Austenitic Stainless Steel and Inconel 657

The current work was carried out to characterize welding of AISI 310 austenitic stainless steel to Inconel 657 nickel-chromium superalloy. The welds were produced using four types of filler materials; the nickel-based corresponding to Inconel 82, Inconel A, Inconel 617 and austenitic stainless steels 310. Of the two joints involved, this paper describes the choice of welding consumables for the...

The Evaluation of Corrosion Behavior of AISI 347 Stainless Steel to ASTM A335 Low Alloy Steel Dissimilar Welds

In the present study, the corrosion behavior of AISI 347 austenitic stainless steel to ASTM A335 low alloy steel dissimilar joint was investigated. For this purpose, two filler metals, ER309L and ERNiCr-3, were selected to be used during the gas tungsten arc welding process. To investigate the corrosion behavior of the joints after welding, the specimens were tested in 3.5% sodium chloride solu...

Depth Sizing of Surface Breaking Flaw on Its Open Side by Short Path of Diffraction Technique

Central Research Institute of Power Industry has developed a highly accurate and low cost flaw depth sizing technique which is easy-to-use in comparison to standard techniques such as crack tip diffraction and TOFD techniques. This technique is called the short path of diffraction (SPOD) technique. In this technique, an angle beam transducer and a 0-degree transducer are used to excite and rece...
